Cory Fica is a percussionist and educator currently based in Miami, FL, and is pursuing a doctorate degree in music at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Fica is a member of the Epoch Percussion Quartet, who formed while studying at the University of Texas at Austin.
With Epoch, Fica has been a concerto soloist with groups such as the Dallas Winds, University of Texas Wind Ensemble, University of Alabama Wind Ensemble and the Interlochen Arts Academy Wind Ensemble. Most recently, Epoch were featured soloists on composer Viet Cuong’s concerto “Re(new)al” for the Dallas Winds showcase concert at the 2021 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Il. Future performances in the 2022-23 season will include collaborations on a new arrangement of John Psathas’ percussion concerto “Orbital” with University of Texas at Austin, Dallas Winds, and continued performances of Cuong’s “Re(new)al” with Kennesaw State University Wind Ensemble and Columbus State University. While in Miami, Fica has performed with ensembles such as New World Symphony and Nu Deco Ensemble.
Prior to moving to Miami, Fica was a freelance performer, studio musician and educator in the Austin, TX area and played in a variety of ensembles that ranged from orchestral and contemporary chamber music to pop and rock. Fica was a member of groups such as the Central Texas Philharmonic, Hear No Evil contemporary music ensemble, frequent collaborator for Tetractys new music collective, and was a drummer for many local artists and rock bands in the Austin music scene.
